Attempts by Washington and Brussels to push Russia to the fringes of global politics because of the Ukrainian crisis seem to have failed. Thanks to its important role in mediating the Iranian nuclear agreement, and to its unexpected military intervention in Syria, Moscow proved once again to be a key player in international politics. However, Russia’s recovered assertiveness may represents a challenge to the uncertain leadership of the West.

This volume aims to gauging Russia’s current role in the light of recent developments on the international stage. The overall Russian foreign policy strategy is examined by taking into account its most important issues: Ukraine and the relationship with the West; the Middle East (intervention in Syria, and ongoing relations with Turkey, Iran and Saudi Arabia); the development of the Eurasian Economic Union; the Russian pivot towards Asia, and China in particular. The volume also analyzes if and to what extent Moscow can fulfill its ambitions in a context of falling oil prices and international sanctions.

 

Aldo Ferrari, (PhD) teaches Armenian Language and Culture, History of Caucasus and Central Asia, and History of Russian Culture at Ca’ Foscari University in Venice. He is head of the Russia, Caucasus and Central Asia Programme at the Italian Institute for International Political Studies (ISPI) in Milan and President of ASIAC (Association of Italian Studies on Central Asia and the Caucasus).

Nnamdi Kanu è  un cittadino britannico, in carcere dal 14 ottobre 2015 in Abuja, su richiesta del presidente della Nigeria Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, nonostante i numerosi ordini del tribunale che richiede  il suo rilascio immediato e incondizionato. Kanu è prigioniero politico per una campagna per il diritto all’autodeterminazione dei popoli indigeni del Biafra.

La polizia segreta della Nigeria nota come DSS rapinò e arrestò Kanu al suo arrivo a Lagos il 14 ottobre 2015 da Londra. Egli fu falsamente accusato di tradimento e trattenuto per ordine del presidente Buhari il quale giurò di non liberarlo nonostante il fatto che tribunali competenti avessero sentenziato che lui dovesse essere liberato. Kanu è attivista dei diritti umani e leader dei popoli indigeni del Biafra (IPOB).

Nnamdi Kanu è un prigioniero di coscienza e deve essere rilasciato immediatamente e incondizionatamente!

Nnamdi Kanu is a British citizen who has been in detention since 14 Oct. 2015 in Abuja at the request of the president of Nigeria Gen. Muhammadu Buhari despite numerous court orders demanding his immediate and unconditional release. Kanu is political prisoner for campaigning for the right to self determination of the Indigenous People of Biafra.

Nigeria’s secret police knows as DSS kidnapped and detained Nnamdi Kanu upon his arrival in Lagos on 14 Oct. 2015 from London. He was falsely accused of treason and held incommunicado at the orders of President Buhari who vowed never to release him despite courts of competent jurisdiction ruling that he should be set free. Kanu is a vocal human rights activist and leader of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

Nnamdi Kanu is a Prisoner of Conscience and must be freed immediately and unconditionally!
