Sosteniamo questo progetto proposto dalla nostra amica Valentina Mmaka!

Amici,

sono attualmente in Kenya dove sto coordinando due laboratori di scrittura e lettura bambini e ragazzi nello slum di Kibera. Hanno un’età compresa tra i 7 e i 17 anni. Alcuni sono ex bambini di strada. Molti di loro non hanno mai letto un libro che non fosse quello scolastico. La mancanza di libri influisce sul loro rendimento scolastico. Spesso il loro vocabolario è povero e hanno difficoltà a scrivere e leggere.

Abbiamo uno spazio dove realizzare una biblioteca comunitaria a Katwekera-KIbera, uno spazio sicuro in cui i giovani possono riunirsi, tenendosi lontani dalla strada e cominciare a conoscere il magico mondo dei libri.

Dear Friends,

I’m currently in Kenya facilitating two writing and reading workshops for children and youth in Kibera slum. We need books.

The children are between 7 and 17 years, some are former street children. They are hungry for stories but they don’t have access to books. Some of them never read a book different from a school book. Their vocabulary is poor and they often don’t have good writing and reading skills which is also affecting their school performance.

We have a space where to keep a small community library in Katwekera-Kibera, this space will allow youth to have a safe space where to spend their free time, taking them away from the street, and become familiar with books.
